Aleia Holding AG has big plans. The company wants to launch extensive projects in the field of renewable energies and thus help shape the energy market of the future. However, little has actually been achieved so far. This is likely the reason why the share price has not progressed thus far.

Specifically, activities in the areas of wind and solar energy as well as biogas and biomethane are to be developed. The focus is currently on wind energy and on northeastern Germany. The subsidiary ME Müritzer Energie AG is by far the leading project developer in the Mecklenburg Lake District region and has secured over 1,500 hectares of land in the region that can be used for the construction of wind farms; this represents 13% of the total potential wind energy area. Plants with a capacity of around 600 megawatts (MW) are currently in the planning stage. After several unexpected complications in project development, approvals have now been granted for two projects in the district of Greifswald and in Brandenburg with a total of 11 wind turbines and a capacity of approximately 80 MW. Commissioning is planned for 2026.

Activities in the wind, solar, and biogas sectors

In the solar sector, land for open-space installations with a capacity of 350 MW has been secured. The first major project, the Nossentiner Hütte solar park with a capacity of around 100 MW, has been delayed due to errors in the approval process. Negotiations are currently underway with various parties regarding its implementation. There are also big plans in the biogas sector. The starting point is the fact that hundreds of biogas plants across Germany are threatened with closure in the coming years due to the expiry of EEG remuneration as a result of increased costs for energy crops or the lack of a follow-up regulation. These are to be taken over and upgraded so that the biogas produced can then be processed into biomethane and fed into the gas grid. However, in view of the currently often excessive price expectations of potential sellers and the uncertainty regarding medium-term remuneration, no biogas plants have been acquired to date.

Focus on financing

The extent to which the projects can be realized and the time frame for doing so depend largely on how the financing can be structured. Neither Aleia Holding nor its wholly owned subsidiary ME Müritzer Energie, through which the transaction is to be carried out, have sufficient funds to provide the equity capital required for financing. One component was originally supposed to be a capital increase of €1 million. However, investors expressed doubts from the outset as to whether this would be a sensible approach. The shares would certainly not have been able to be placed at a price above €1, which would have raised only a fraction of the funds required. The capital increase was canceled. As an alternative, the plan now is to arrange financing in cooperation with other developers through joint ventures or strategic investments at the corporate level. In addition, capitalization of the project rights, mezzanine financing, or investor participation in the individual holding companies would also be conceivable.

Figures still not very informative

So much of this is still a long way off. The current figures are not very meaningful. Aleia Holding did not record any sales in the 2023 financial year. However, costs were also very manageable, so that the annual result was only slightly negative at € -97,000 (-13,000). Equity is reported at €16.5 (16.6) million. The operating subsidiary ME Müritzer Energie, on the other hand, closed the year with a positive annual result of €0.87 (1.32) million due to valuation effects. No figures have yet been published for the 2024 financial year. There are also no quarterly reports, as the share is currently only listed on the High Risk Market of the Hamburg Stock Exchange. Discussions about a segment change are underway. However, given the company's early stage of development, such a move would make little sense at present.aufgrund von Bewertungseffekten mit einem positiven Jahresergebnis von € 0.87 (1.32) Mio. ab.
